Abbott & Costello were one of the most popular and skilled comedy teams in the history of vaudeville. They did everything from burlesque to broadway to film and eventually, televsion too. Born on October 2nd 1897 in Asbury Park, Bud Costello quickly became one of the most enjoyed burlesque performers. It was in the burlesque business that he met his future partner, Louis Francis Cristillo, born on March 6, 1906 in Paterson, New Jersey. By 1936, they were an official comedy team. They soon became even more popular as a pair, booking burlesque gigs left and right, but it wasn't until they appeared on the Kate Smith Radio Hour where they performed their now classic skit "Who's on First that Abbot and Costello truly become stars and were signed to Universal Studios in Hollywood in 1939.  They were soon known as the new "Kings of Comedy" and they produced numerous box office classics such as "Buck Privates," "In The Navy," "Hold That Ghost," "Naughty Nineties," "Time Of Their Lives," and "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein." The comedy that the pair produced helped lift the spirits of all the Americans affected by World War II, and wanting to help fund the war effort, the pair funded a cross country tour to sen proceeds to the War Bond Drive. They were adored by millions and sold out every show they performed. Soon, they were on to television, with the Abbott and Costello Show airing in 1952, which ran for two seasons on CBS. They also participated in the burlesque performances of The Colgate Comedy Hour and made a debut on the Steve Allen Show before their split in 1957. (Abbott and Costello meet the internet).
